Flood- An Act of God

Flood, a natural calamity, is an act of almighty God.
I am an eye witness of a Flood scene which has affected many areas including V.I.P. area way back in the year 1960 when I was student of High School in a local Intermediate Collage of Lucknow (U.P., India).
This year Barmer (Rajasthan- India) and Behraich (U.P- India) were also Flood affected areas. During the days of this year’s raining season I was in Barmer. I have personally viewed the terrible scene of Flood.
But no one but an eye-witness can describe the terrible distress which these disastrous Floods have caused in the Barmer and Behraich Districts.
These Floods have been unprecedented in the recent history of India. Hundreds of villages have been wiped out, large numbers of cattle have been drowned, crops over a large area have been destroyed and vast stores of Fodder and Food Grains have been swept away, and in consequence thousands of villagers are destitute and starving. They have lost all their property and most of them have nothing on their persons except the cloths in which they manage to escape. They are living like homeless wretches in the open sky, exposed to the inclemency of the weather and many are ill because of lack of shelter, Food and clothing.
The devastation has been so wide spread that only the fullest co-operation between the Government and the people can adequately relive the distress caused in the affected area. The villages will have to re-build and the villages have to be supplied with seeds, Farm implants and Bullocks before they can start work again and earn their daily bread.
A Flood is brought about by excessive rain causing a river that runs through the Town or Villages to over flow its banks. The havoc wrought by Flood is often enormous loss of property and loss of life or caused to an extent which is heart breaking. Men are taken by surprise by the incoming Flood and find themselves crushed to death under the collapsing walls or washed away by the cruel water. Crops are destroyed and thousands of villagers are reduced to the verge of starvation. Many deeds of heroism are done by men who take boats down the water or even venture to swim across and a try to save as many lives as they can.
But some elements of our society in place of helping the victims of Flood used to steel their house hold effects and some policemen are also party to this.
In my opinion there is only one merit of this natural calamity is that the agricultural land in the Flood affected area become more fertile than before.
